My name is Stephanie Han, and on August 8th, my parents Kevin and Michelle were among the many residents who evacuated in a moment’s notice as wildfires overtook our beloved hometown of Lahaina, Maui. Leaving with not much more than the clothes on their backs, my parents were forced to abandon their car on Front Street and seek refuge in the ocean as their car was engulfed in flames with the rest of Lahaina town. By the grace of God, my childhood home is still standing. However, it has been deemed uninhabitable due to biohazards in the air and water. It is now completely inaccessible as our neighborhood is obsolete and blocked off by the National Guard.
Kevin and Michelle have lost the life they have worked so hard to create in Lahaina. For the past 25 years, they have served the Lahaina community through their family-owned business, Aina Lahaina Taxi. Those who know them would describe them as dedicated, kind, and hardworking individuals who aim to go above and beyond in serving their guests. In losing their vehicle in the fire, they have lost not only their source of transportation but also our family’s main source of income. The community that Kevin and Michelle dedicated their 25 years of service to is no longer there.
