On August 8, my cousins Rodney (a native son of Lahaina) and Kristen Borromeo lost their home of 17 years to the wildfires on Maui. Satellite imagery shows that their Lahainaluna home has been burned to the ground – and neighbors were able to confirm there is nothing left but a concrete slab where the house once stood. While they did not have the opportunity to evacuate any of their belongings, they are safe and staying with family as this tragedy unfolds. The Borromeos have a son, Kaleb, who is attending the University of Las Vegas as he pursues his dream of becoming a chiropractor.
