My sister and her wife Emma live and work in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. The fire moved so fast through the harbor, that they weren’t able to save their own boat, and they were forced to jump on a nearby skiff and race down the harbor, telling nearby boaters to abandon their boats and jump in with them before it was too late. Chrissy and Emma would spend the next several hours saving people, specifically two small children they found trapped between the fires of Front Street and the reef.
Chrissy and Emma have lost all forms of income and their business in which they delivered food and goods to the community of neighboring island, Lanai. Lahaina Harbor has been completely obliterated along with their three work boats and three work vehicles. The night of the fire Chrissy and Emma spent the night on a mooring watching everything they know, love and have worked for burn to the ground. I don’t know what the future looks like for them but I know they are going to need to rely on help from friends and family.
