I lived in Lahaina and worked the fishing boat charters. I have a 15 yr old daughter who attends Lahainalua. We are both out of a home and no car. I got my daughter to safety when the fires were headed our way. I went back to the docks to help others get out. I got trapped in there with so many of the locals who were trying to escape by vehicles. There was no getting out. Cars were just dead stop and the fires were coming up against out. So many of us got out of our cars and ran for the seawall.
A sight I can’t get out of my mind or heart. My daughter and her mom were evacuated to the other side of the island. I went the only way I could which was a 10 mile walk to Kihei. After two days with no communication I finally was able to reunite with my daughter. We are determined to make it work by helping Lahaina heal and rebuild. My daughter and I thank everyone for reaching out to whoever you can and have helped. If it’s us, we extend a huge sincere Mahalo and God Bless!
