My aunt, Patti Maielua, has lived in Lahaina for over 50 years, spending many of those years as a teacher and principal at Lahainaluna. She lives with her daughter (my cousin), Ui Castro, and her husband, Kai Castro. Ui works for the police department and Kai works for Kaanapali Coffee Services. Patti, Ui, and Kai are so loving and incredibly loved in their community and o’hana. They have three boys: Kupa’a is 20, a third year student at St. Martin’s University in Washington, Kana’au is 18, a first year student UH Manoa, and Abran is 12, a 7th grader. The whole family is part of an incredibly close extended family, who will all benefit from support. All of them lost their homes and are currently sleeping in their cars or with family. They had to leave almost everything behind and are lucky to be safe. They will have to rebuild from scratch. Thank you so much for helping this amazing family dealing with this incredible trauma and loss.Specifically, the funds will go directly to the Maielua/Castro family. It will help them with clothing/shoes, food and water, temporary shelter/housing, toiletries, costs to replace official documents, school supplies, and rebuilding costs.
