With no warning sirens activated, my parents followed our neighbors and evacuated out of Front Street Apartments. They have relocated to a shelter for the time being and are being taken care of by incredible community members, volunteers, and nonprofit organizations across Hawai’i. My sister and I are extremely grateful that our parents survived this dramatic event. We grieve others that were not so fortunate or are still missing their loved ones.

Unfortunately, our home and precious belongings did not make it. My sister and I are communicating with our parents daily to figure out the next steps and help them apply for government aid, along with the other thousands of Maui residents who were impacted.
