Shaw Family (Sierra & ‘Ohana)

USD

It’s been hard trying to put this recent tragedy into words. From waking up realizing I own nothing to knowing my family and I will have to restart from the beginning. Rummaging through donated clothes and crying while waiting in food drive lines has been the most humbling moments of my 21 years of life. It’s been easy not asking for help because the community that surrounds me has done it without request. Feeling the support from friends far and wide and watching families who have lost everything lean on each other has filled my heart. I’m not sure what the next steps are but I know the first is trusting god.

My mom lost irreplaceable tokens of my dads life in the fire as well as everything physical to her name besides a few clothes packed for the evening. I left my house with a few clothes packed, my laptop, a book and my toothbrush. And as all of these things are “just things” we all got out alive, and for that I do have the most valuable thing to me; family. If you can contribute anything to rebuilding our lives from scratch, even if it’s just a prayer please send it to Lahaina
